Erik Wheater, an award winning TV news anchor and reporter, has joined the Burns360 Team as an account executive. Wheater will play an integral role in driving the agency’s media relations campaigns, while helping clients reach their social media, content marketing, and video production goals.
“If you’re going to offer a full suite of communication services, you need someone with Erik’s skill set,” said Michael Burns, president of Burns360. “Erik knows how to tell the stories of our clients in a visual, compelling way that truly resonates with the media and potential customers.”
Wheater began his career as a television news reporter and anchor at KTVE, the NBC affiliate in Monroe, Louisiana. After two years in the bayou, he returned to his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa, where he held the same position at WHO-TV. There, he won several awards including the Eric Sevareid Award for “Best Soft Feature” and a regional Emmy for his contributions to the “Best Overall Newscast.”
Wheater also began his public relations career in Iowa where he worked as a media relations specialist at the Meyocks Group. While holding that title, he helped earn clients news coverage at more than 15 television stations and 100 newspapers across the country. He also helped the agency incorporate the use of video into its list of services.
“Burns360 is an agency that is willing to think outside the box to meet client needs,” said Wheater. “That was appealing to me, and I look forward to using my journalism background to get our clients the positive exposure they seek.
