Residents and team members of Edgemere, an SQLC retirement community, participated in several fundraising events over the past few months to support the Dallas chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Most recently, the senior living community took part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and held its 5th Annual Hoedown to raise awareness and money.  Other community events included the Forget-Me-Not Gala, Casual for a Cause and an annual garage sale. Altogether, the community raised close to $25,000 for the cause.

“Every year, the residents and team members amaze me with their generosity and passion to help those impacted by Alzheimer’s,” said John Falldine, managing director of Edgemere. “This is a cause close to our hearts, as we enrich the lives of memory support residents in The Plaza Health Services at Edgemere each and every day. We are hopeful that by continuing to build awareness and raising research funds, researchers will find a cure.”

The events had widespread support from the community, with the Hoedown being a much anticipated event. More than 150 residents, their families and Edgemere team members attended the Hoedown. They enjoyed an evening of live music, barbeque, beverages, a caricaturist and an appearance from Ziggy the Horse in the Memory Care courtyard.

“Finding a cure for Alzheimer’s is important to all of us who live and work at Edgemere,” said Brittany Middleton, memory support manager of The Plaza Health Services at Edgemere. “The annual event is one that residents and their families look forward to every year. By combining fun with fundraising, it’s a win-win for everyone.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, every 66 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s, and it is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Currently, more than 350,000 Texans are living with Alzheimer’s, and that number is expected to grow to 490,000 by 2025.
