The Legacy at Home, the largest not-for-profit home health provider in Greater Dallas, has established a reputation for providing excellent comprehensive Medicare-certified in-home health care, private duty nursing and personal assistance with daily living. The agency is dedicated to providing seniors and their families with access to quality care, especially now as many seniors are making the decision to age in place at home or with their adult children. The Legacy at Home reports a tremendous increase in the demand for services, with a 36 percent spike this year when compared to last year. In addition, people who use The Legacy at Home have a higher success rate and don’t relapse as frequently. Since The Legacy at Home is Medicare-certified, seniors and the families in Greater Dallas can access a wide variety of services all offered by one agency.
“I was in this position where I was unable to get my mom to her doctor’s appointments on time, and I couldn’t balance caring for her with my own life,” said Gloria Stayman. “I felt completely alone and guilty for not being able to do something so simple for my mom. At the same time, I knew that she struggled with the feeling that she was a burden to me. However, with the help of The Legacy at Home, that stress was completely removed from our shoulders. It was an incredible help to me as it allowed me to manage my work-life balance, but most importantly it provided my mom with the care she deserved, and I could relax knowing she was safe and well taken care of.”
According to Stayman, she was terrified to tell her mom someone else would be taking her to weekly appointments. Those fears were quickly relieved after the first trip because her mom immediately loved the experience. Stayman’s mother hasn’t driven in years, and the independence that came from going to her appointments “on her own” has provided her with confidence and a sense of individuality.
“As an only child, there’s this moment when you realize you’re it and there’s no one else to make decisions with or get help from, and that’s incredibly difficult,” said Stayman. “After the relief my mom and I have experienced over the last two of years, I couldn’t imagine going back to the way life was previously. We’ve been very spoiled! Being able to receive support when we needed it the most changed our lives for the better.”
For Legacy at Home client Elaine Rutchik, the services of the agency have allowed for an amount of freedom that alleviated stress for Rutchik and her husband. According to Rutchik, after two hip surgeries, she couldn’t imagine her post-surgery rehabilitation therapy being as successful without the personal attention and individualized care she received at home.
“After my first surgery, I had a relatively good idea of what my recovery would be like,” said Rutchik. “However, I worried I wouldn’t bounce back from my second surgery as fast as I did after my first hip surgery. Imagine my surprise when I received equal attention and care for both hips. My team, a physical therapist and an RN, was dedicated to making sure that my progress wasn’t impeded in any way and that I was properly equipped to strengthen my body. They made sure that I incorporated exercises that strengthened my joints and muscles so that I would have proper mobility.”
After her hip surgery, her team from The Legacy at Home went directly to the Rutchik home three times a week for Elaine’s physical therapy so that she could get back on her feet in the shortest amount of time possible. The team worked with her doctors to ensure she received an individualized care plan designed with a series of exercises focused on retraining and rebuilding Rutchik’s physical strength. It was through this individualized care Rutchik says she was able to optimize her recovery, all from the comfort of her own home. While Elaine admits she was fortunate to have her husband assist with many of the personal and daily details around the house, The Legacy at Home team greatly aided with medication management. According to Rutchik, this simple service relieved a significant amount of stress.
“Neither of us was familiar with the medications, and naturally we didn’t want to make a mistake,” says Rutchik. “Being able to have someone sit down with both of us to explain what each medication did, what it was for and how it reacted with other medications was so helpful. I couldn’t ask for any better care than what I received, my team made my recovery much easier.”
“It’s an incredible feeling to hear from our clients about how we make their daily lives easier,” said Charlene Bishop, administrator of The Legacy at Home. “I’m very proud of what our team has accomplished by making a difference for those in our care. We look forward to the continued success, and we are dedicated to excellence for many years to come. Whether seniors use our services for personal assistance or Medicare-certified home health, we will do everything we can to ensure the highest level of care for each individual’s personalized needs.”
“Our team is providing a critical service that positively impacts the lives of seniors and their families, and I want to personally congratulate The Legacy at Home for its accomplishments now and in the future,” said David Eisenberg, chair of the Board of Directors of The Legacy at Home.
