Dallas Holocaust Museum Hosts Human Trafficking Expert & Award-Winning Author Mike Kim

11/7/16

Kim will discuss combating human trafficking on Thursday, Nov. 17 as part of the Museum’s 2016 Upstander Speaker Series

The Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance is pleased to host Mike Kim, human trafficking expert and award-winning author, on Thursday, Nov. 17 as part of its 2016 Upstander Speaker Series. Kim will discuss combating human trafficking and share his personal experiences in successfully leading North Korean refugees and sex trafficking victims to safety in Asia via a 6,000-mile modern-day underground railroad.

Kim, a Korean-American, moved to the China-North Korea border in 2003 and founded Crossing Borders, a nonprofit dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance to North Korean refugees. In his memoir, Escaping North Korea: Defiance and Hope in the World’s Most Repressive Country, Kim recounts his experiences in helping North Korean victims escape to freedom in Southeast Asia.

“Human trafficking is a global humanitarian crisis and a grave violation of human rights,” said Dallas Holocaust Museum President and CEO Mary Pat Higgins. “Mike’s harrowing stories further demonstrate the immediate need for action against these crimes.”

The Upstander Speaker Series was created to showcase Upstanders—people who are willing to stand up and take action in defense of others while inspiring others to demonstrate the same courage and commitment.

The event is open to the public and will be held at Communities Foundation of Texas at 5500 Caruth Haven Lane in Dallas. To attend, please register on Eventbrite. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. CST. Admission is free for museum members. General Admission is $10. Meet Michael Kim at the VIP reception at 5:30 p.m. CST: Members $20; General Admission $30 (includes admission to program).
