Underwood’s Cara Kennemer Earns Certification in Construction Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization

1/17/17

Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) announced that Cara Kennemer has received Board Certification in Construction Law. Kennemer practices with Underwood Law Firm in Fort Worth.

This is the first year Board Certification has been offered for Construction Law. Eighty-two attorneys in Texas received certification, including eight in Tarrant County.

Board Certified attorneys must be licensed for at least five years, devote a required percentage of practice to a specialty area for at least three years, attend continuing education seminars, pass an evaluation by fellow lawyers and judges, and pass a 6-hour written examination. It is a voluntary designation program.

To remain certified, attorneys must apply for re-certification every five years and meet substantial involvement, peer review and continuing legal education requirements for their specialty area.

Kennemer is a 2002 graduate of the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas that year.

Her practice focuses on all aspects of commercial and residential construction law. She assists owners, contractors, design professionals, subcontractors and suppliers in the negotiation and preparation of design and construction contracts and advises clients on risk allocation and project management.

Kennemer also helps clients protect their lien and bond claims through the process of pre-claim notices, filing of mechanic’s and materialman’s liens and surety bond claims, negotiating payment with contractors and property owners, and filing suit to litigate lien and bond claims.

She is a frequent speaker and author on a variety of topics concerning the construction industry for the State Bar of Texas and professional trade organizations.
