Tina Amberboy
Yesterday, the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) announced the appointment of Tina Amberboy to its Board. Amberboy will be working with Board Members in overseeing the administration of the Board Certification program, including the organization’s finances, enhancing the value of Board Certification as well as increasing its public awareness.
“With Tina’s extensive child welfare experience and leadership role at the Supreme Court of Texas Children’s Commission, she was instrumental in the launch of the Child Welfare Law Board Certification over a year ago. We’re proud to now have her on our Board,” said Leo Figueroa, Executive Director of TBLS. “Her insights will be valuable to not only help us further grow the child welfare specialty area, but also to expand overall member resources and value.”
As Executive Director of the Children’s Commission (Texas Permanent Judicial Commission for Children, Youth and Families at the Supreme Court of Texas), Amberboy leads the development and execution of its strategies, oversees daily operations and numerous projects, monitors proposed legislation affecting the child welfare system and manages the federal Court Improvement Program for Texas. She frequently publishes articles and reports regarding child welfare and publicly speaks on the matter to congressional staff, state legislative staff, national and private organizations, among others. She has also provided legal representation to children and parents involved in child protective services in the past.
“It is an honor to serve on the TBLS Board,” said Amberboy. “Our child welfare system impacts thousands of Texas children, youth, and families each year. Quality legal representation for all parties involved is critical to ensuring better outcomes and promoting justice. Attorneys are drawn to this work to help strengthen and support Texas families and I am proud that TBLS will elevate this practice area to such an esteemed status.”
Amberboy is co-founder of the Austin Bar Association Section of Court Appointed Family Attorneys and is a member of the American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law, the National Association of Counsel for Children and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. She also serves on the Department of Family and Protective Services Public-Private Partnership. She received her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin and her juris doctor from Baylor Law School.
The Board Certification program is administered by a 12-member board appointed by the President of the State Bar of Texas. All members are appointed to three-year staggered terms of office, and are eligible for reappointment for one additional term.
