What kind of culture is Mr. Culp attempting to create at General Electric, because the culture of an organization is the foundation of a company's performance.

For better or worse, everything a CEO does or says reflects the kind of culture the CEO is attempting to build at the company, especially at a company turning around.

Unfortunately, Mr. Culp has gotten off to a bumpy start in front of the investment community, leaving people uncertain about GE's future and the price of its stock has declined.

Larry Culp did not get off to the greatest start as the leader of General Electric (NYSE: GE). Unfortunately, this sets the tone for his early days in office. And, it sets the tone for investor confidence.

Mr. Culp’s beginning has captured the interest of others, who are trying to put his performance within the context of other CEOs that have stumbled getting off the starting blocks.

John Stoll, for example, writing in the Wall Street Journal, states right off that Mr. Culp “fumbled a task straight out of Executive Leadership 101.”

“In a 20-minute CNBC interview Monday, Mr. Culp assumed the role of GE’s chief spokesman to soothe investors who have endured a rocky ride and myriad surprises. Mr. Culp said a lot, but only a few things sunk in: GE’s struggling power business hasn’t hit bottom, he said, and assets would be sold to raise cash.”
