ABB Optical Group, a leading national provider of optical products, services and business solutions for the eye care industry, is pleased to announce that It’s a Sensory World (ISW) in Farmers Branch, Texas has received a $1,000 grant through the company’s Sixth Annual ABB Cares program, which recognizes and celebrates outstanding non-profit organizations throughout the country.

Nominated by local optometrist Dr. David E. Weber in Dallas, It’s a Sensory World is devoted to serving children with special needs with customized sensory-based programs to maximize developmental potential leading to the independence and inclusion of each child.

It’s a Sensory World offers ISW Academy, a school program that provides a unique educational approach that combines several intervention methods. In just the last three years, the school program has grown from 32 to 54 students. This growth brings new expenses and ISW has a very limited budget. Tuition paid by families only covers 70% of the cost of operating ISW Academy and the other 30% is dependent on fundraising. The ABB Cares grant will help fund new therapeutic classroom materials and sensory gym equipment.

“I have a personal connection to It’s a Sensory World because my son who is on the autism spectrum was one of the first children to ever participate in programs at It’s a Sensory World,” said Dr. Weber. “The faculty and staff seem to never run out of compassion and energy, and I believe our community is fortunate to have these innovative people and programs nearby.”

ABB Cares recognizes charities that have been nominated by eye care professionals across the country for exceptional programming and community impact. Other 2019 grant recipients are: BIO Girls in Fargo, North Dakota; Lakeshore Food 4 Kids in Ludington, Michigan; Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge in Minneapolis; Sandy Feet Initiative in Mission Viejo, California; The Camphill School in Glenmoore, Pennsylvania; and Vision is Priceless in Jacksonville, Florida.

“It’s a Sensory World has created an incredible community where children with special needs and their families can feel included and supported,” said ABB Optical Group Chief Executive Officer Tom Burke. “We commend this amazing organization for the important work that they do and thank Dr. Weber for bringing them to our attention.”
